Apeirum Ltd designs and builds artificial intelligence meant to enlarge what a person is capable of — and holds itself to the claim that this should be true for everyone, not only for those who can afford it or already know how to ask.
[01] The name
Apeiron — ἄπειρον — is Anaximander's word for the boundless: the indefinite, inexhaustible source he believed every existing thing is drawn from. It is an unusual thing to name a company after, because it describes something that cannot be finished.
That is the point. We do not treat intelligence as a product to be completed and sold. We treat it as a capacity that keeps unfolding, and our work as the business of making sure it unfolds in a direction worth living in.
[02] How we work
We build in the open where we can, and slowly where it matters. A capability that cannot be explained to the person using it is not finished, however well it performs. A capability that performs well and leaves that person diminished is not a capability we want.
We are a small company with a long horizon. That combination rules out a great deal — most of it things we are glad to be ruled out of.
